What retatrutide is and where it stands in development
Retatrutide is a synthetic 39-amino-acid lipopeptide developed by Eli Lilly under the code LY-3437943. Pharmacologists call it a triple agonist because it binds the GIP, GLP-1 and glucagon receptors at the same time. Slovenian sources write retatrutid, English sources write retatrutide, and online communities shorten it to reta; all three refer to the same molecule. The compound is still in clinical development: phase 2 results appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2023, and the first phase 3 results from the TRIUMPH programme were announced in December 2025. No regulator, not the FDA, the EMA or Slovenia's JAZMP, has approved retatrutide as a medicine. That single fact frames everything below: what is on the market is a research reagent, not a drug.
Why no pharmacy sells retatrutide
Pharmacies dispense medicines that hold a marketing authorisation. Retatrutide has none anywhere in the world, so it cannot be bought in a pharmacy, with or without a prescription. In April 2026 the Slovenian agency JAZMP published a warning about injectable peptides sold online, stating that such products have no verified quality, safety or efficacy and advising against their purchase. The US FDA, in its notice on unapproved GLP-1 class drugs, states that retatrutide cannot be used in compounding under federal law because it is not a component of any approved drug.
