What you are actually buying: a research reagent, not a medicine
Research peptides are laboratory reagents intended strictly for research use only (RUO) — for in vitro experiments and model studies, not for use in humans or animals. Slovenia's legal framework is clear: if a substance is in an injectable form and has a pharmacological effect, the law classifies it as a medicine that requires a marketing authorisation. A peptide sold as a research reagent, by contrast, is a chemical that an individual can generally obtain, but you must understand that you are buying research material — not a product for treatment, weight loss or wellbeing. This distinction is not merely formal: it governs how the product is tested, labelled and documented. A reliable source therefore always presents the product as a reagent accompanied by evidence of purity and identity, and never as a preparation for humans.
Why the source matters: the JAZMP warning context
In April 2026, JAZMP (Slovenia's medicines agency) issued a warning about injectable peptides sold online. The agency stresses that such products have no marketing authorisation, so their quality, safety and efficacy have not been verified. Some listed substances are in fact registered medicines (e.g. semaglutide, somatropin), while others are still in clinical trials or have only been tested in vitro or in animal models. This is precisely why choosing a transparent source matters for research reagents: when documentation is missing, you risk unknown composition, contamination and misdeclared content. The warning's context is therefore not an argument against research peptides as reagents, but a clear call to buy deliberately, with evidence and without any claims about use in humans.
A certificate of analysis (COA) for every batch
A certificate of analysis (COA) is the central document summarising what a laboratory actually measured for a specific batch. It must state the peptide's identity, the measured purity, the analytical methods used and — crucially — the batch number that matches the product in your hands. A generic or undated COA not tied to a specific batch has little evidentiary value, since quality can vary from batch to batch. A study of semaglutide samples sold online showed how wide the gap between labelled and actual can be: measured purity was only 7.7% to 14.37%, even though the labels claimed 99%. A reliable Slovenian source therefore publishes a COA for every batch openly, so you can verify it before you buy.
HPLC and mass spectrometry: two complementary methods
The two methods complement each other, and neither is sufficient alone. Liquid chromatography (HPLC) separates the sample's components and quantifies the proportion of impurities, but does not tell you which molecules are present. Mass spectrometry (MS) measures the mass-to-charge ratio and confirms the peptide's identity and the nature of impurities such as deletion or truncated sequences, oxidised forms and residual reagents. Only the combination of HPLC and MS answers both questions at once: 'how pure is it' and 'is this really that molecule'. Analytical studies show that liquid chromatography with high-resolution mass spectrometry can detect impurities below 0.1% of the active content — a level unreachable with UV detection alone. A credible COA therefore usually includes both: an HPLC chromatogram for purity and a mass spectrum to confirm identity.
Supplier transparency and discreet EU shipping
Supplier transparency matters as much as the laboratory data. A reliable source clearly states its company and registration details, contact information and terms of business — it does not hide behind an anonymous website. Reviews of online sales show that a large share of illegal sellers operate without a verifiable identity and without proper documentation, which undermines traceability and accountability. For research reagents, orderly packaging, consistent batch labelling and discreet shipping within the EU along clear, traceable routes also matter. The combination of public company details, accessible COAs and orderly logistics is a simple but reliable indicator of a serious supplier. When these elements are absent, you lack the very foundation on which quality can be judged at all.
Red flags: dosing promises and human-use claims
The clearest red flag is a supplier that promises doses, human routes of use, or effects such as weight loss, greater muscle mass or improved wellbeing. A research reagent by definition carries no such claims — these amount to presenting the product as a medicine, which requires a marketing authorisation and medical supervision. A supplier that advises dosing or reconstitution for administration steps out of the reagent space into the space of medicines, taking on the regulatory risks that JAZMP also warns about. Other flags include: a missing or generic COA, unclear company identity, suspiciously low prices, and purity claims with no accompanying data. A credible source stays consistently within the RUO framework and offers you evidence of quality, not promises about effects.
